Review Arcane Veterinarian 2

Oh my gosh, I absolutely devoured Arcane Veterinarian 2! It was even better than the first book, which is saying something because I already loved Ethan and his quirky world. This time around, the stakes are so much higher. It’s not just about fixing hexed hamsters and making sure the pigs don't fly too high; this time, Ethan’s facing a potential magical apocalypse! The buildup of arcane energy beneath Arcane Acres and in the Ironfoot Mountains is seriously tense, and the enslaved dragons add a whole new layer of complexity. I loved the way the author built on the world from the first book, adding depth and intrigue without sacrificing the cozy, lighthearted feel that made the first one so enjoyable.

The plot is brilliantly paced. The journey from the familiar comfort of Arcane Acres to the dangerous depths of dwarven prisons and then to dragon-filled islands kept me completely hooked. There's plenty of action and adventure, but also those charming moments of slice-of-life that make this series so special. I particularly enjoyed seeing Ethan, Rose, and their companions work together, their friendships deepening as they face ever-increasing challenges. The humor is perfectly woven in; those lines you quoted—"Sure, I can be your uncle...I'll be a snowman's uncle!" and "Well that's a shyte covered cow tail to the face"—had me laughing out loud. They're perfectly placed and add to the overall lightheartedness without distracting from the plot.

Ethan's character arc continues to be a highlight. Watching him grow in skill and confidence, while still retaining his compassionate heart, is truly rewarding. I love how he’s not just a powerful arcane veterinarian; he’s also a loyal friend and a brave leader, always ready to put himself on the line for those he cares about. The supporting characters are equally well-developed; they each have their own unique personalities and contributions to the story. The blend of fantasy, LitRPG elements (though delightfully light on the stats), and cozy charm is perfectly balanced. It never feels overwhelming or too complex, making it a very accessible and enjoyable read, even for those who aren't typically LitRPG fans.

However, I do have to echo some of the other reviews regarding the editing. While the story itself is captivating, the numerous typos and homonym errors are distracting. It’s a shame, because it detracts slightly from the overall reading experience. I completely understand that self-published authors often have to balance many things, but I genuinely hope future editions (or even a professional editor) can address this issue. It truly deserves a cleaner final product.

Despite the minor editing quibbles, Arcane Veterinarian 2 is a fantastic read. It’s funny, heartwarming, adventurous, and suspenseful all at once. The world-building is exceptional, and I’m already eagerly anticipating book three. If you're looking for a captivating fantasy series that's both exciting and comforting, this is definitely one to add to your list. Just maybe hold off until a revised edition if you're particularly sensitive to editing mistakes.
